Verity Petraits Moves to a New Studio!

A lovely space and only needs some adjustments before I move in!

Funnily enough, this studio is just down the corridor from my old space! However, I’ve always had my eyes on this space since I’ve moved to the Aldrington, Workhaus studio complex, since I occupied my first studio 5 years ago! The Workhaus Studio Complex is based in East Sussex, England.

Lisa Loyd, the former owner and world renowned paper artist, offered the space to me because she was moving to a bigger space on site. I knew straight away that I should go for it and soo happy that I got it! The studio’s wall space and brightness really attracted me. Above is the ‘before photo’ of the space, before I moved in.

I was relieved that I didn’t need to do much to the space to get it up to scratch. I sanded and painted the walls which took two days. Then I coated the floor in floor paint. The whole process reminded me of my art degree days when I used to paint walls a lot for exhibitions. It was really refreshing to rejuvenate a space and start with a blank slate.

The floor had just been painted! The window’s reflection reminds me of a Turrell Installation.

My boyfriend and I noticed the space had little storage compartments and so we decided to make a practical bench! I think my love of interior design shows helped that idea! I’m grateful to my boyfriend who had the know how of how to build one.

As you can see I’m only occupying half of the benches’ storage, this is because I plan to invite another artist to share the space with me.

My slapdash, desk getup, I plan to organise it a bit better!

Officially moved into Unit 2!

I’m really thrilled with the space and look forward to inviting another artist to share it with me.
