My First Canter with Bonnie
Today I had my third riding lesson. I think Bonnie and I have now bonded a little because she was less cheeky today!
In todays lesson we managed to cover a lot. We started off walking and trotting around the full length of the school. Then we practised crossing the school and trotting in circles. Bonnie attempted to stop mid trot a couple of times, as she was spooked by the tractors that were moving around the farm, however I managed to encourage her with a pat or two!
Lastly, the instructor suggested that I should practise sitting on Bonnie with my arms in the air, whilst Bonnie trots in a small circle. I was really nervous about this but I managed to ride with my hands on my head! Then I was asked to ride without stirrups and this helped me to better my leg posture (as I tend to lift my feet too hight instead of sinking my weight into my heels). To top that all off, I managed to survive my first Canter (Horse Run). I was terrified at first because it felt like I was on a bucking bronco, as I was clinging for life onto the saddle, and I could visualise myself falling headfirst! The instructor was really encouraging and gave me the tip that I should sit with my shoulders back and this helped Bonnie and I to Canter successfully! I can’t wait for my next lesson in 2023!
